In a statement, the ministry said investigations found that Al Aisy Travel & Tour Sdn Bhd also failed to make prior arrangements for accommodation and transport in Madinah as stipulated in its umrah package itinerary, and did not adhere to the scheduled travel plan.
The ministry said that apart from raising concerns over the pilgrims’ safety and causing them financial and emotional distress, the incident undermined public confidence in the integrity of the tourism sector.
The ministry said the company breached licensing conditions under Sections 8(1)(a) and 8(1)(b) of the Tourism Industry Act 1992, and had conducted its business in a manner detrimental to public interest and the tourism industry under Section 8(1)(d) of the Act.
“The ministry will not compromise on violations of laws by licensed tourism operators,” it said, adding that the revocation took effect from March 31.
The ministry urged travel operators to comply with regulations to ensure the safety and welfare of pilgrims and travellers.
