Dr Vida pleads guilty to GST offences, fined RM80,000

Vida beauty founder Hasmiza Othman had failed to submit her GST returns between April 2015 and July 2016.

PETALING JAYA: Cosmetics millionaire Hasmiza Othman, better known as Dr Vida, pleaded guilty in the Ipoh Sessions Court here today to 16 counts of failing to submit her goods and services tax (GST) returns.

She was fined a total of RM80,000.

The founder and owner of Vida Beauty Sdn Bhd admitted before judge Murtazadi Amran to committing the offences between April 2015 and July 2016, Bernama reported.

The charge under Section 41(6) of the GST Act 2014 carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or three years’ jail or both, on conviction.

On Oct 13, Hasmiza had claimed trial to 16 counts of failing to submit her GST statements and 16 counts of failing to pay GST amounting to RM4.2 million between April 2015 and July 2016.

At today’s appearance, the founder of Vida Beauty Sdn Bhd pleaded not guilty to another 16 charges of failing to pay GST, and requested that the case be re-mentioned, New Straits Times Online reported.

The court set RM1.76 million as bail for all the charges and impounded the accused’s passport pending disposal of the case.
