KUCHING:
Police say they will question a Facebook user who posted today that the “Datuk” charged with the Bill Kayong murder was “not the real criminal”.

The person instead blamed elected representatives and government officials.

Sarawak CID chief SAC Dev Kumar said a police report was lodged at the Sekama police station about the Facebook post by a person with the profile name Vernon Aji Kedit.

The post was accompanied by two photos of the arrest of suspect, Stephen Lee Chee Kiang, today.

“He is not the real criminal. The real thieves and murderers are the government/YB/Menteri that gave him the provisional lease over legitimate Dayak NCR (native customary rights) land,” the user posted.

“Which YB/menteri approved the PL and bulih kangtow?”

Dev said police were investigating the report for defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“The state police are not amused by the post.

“The post appears to be belittling the hard work done by the police to track and bring back the suspect to face justice.

“The account holder has also made false accusations against parties who are in no way connected to the murder.

“We are in the process of identifying the account holder and bringing him in for questioning.”

Lee was today charged at the Miri Magistrate’s Court with abetment in the murder of Bill, who was PKR Miri secretary and PKR-Bekenu candidate.

Lee arrived at the Miri Airport at 11.15am today from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

He had been detained in Fujian, China, by Chinese authorities on Monday. Malaysian police flew to China to escort him home. Lee was earlier reported to have gone to Australia.

Bernama earlier reported that no plea was recorded from the accused who nodded to indicate he understood the charge when it was read to him in Chinese at the dock before magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa.

The magistrate fixed Dec 30 for remention after deputy public prosecutor Noor Fadzila Ishak told the court that the prosecution was awaiting consent from the Attorney-General’s Chambers to transfer the case to the High Court.

On Nov 25, Lee’s personal assistant Chin Wui Ching, 50, and pub owner Lie Chang Loon, 37, claimed trial in the Miri High Court to abetting bouncer Mohamad Fitri Pauzi, 29, in murdering Bill, whose Muslim name is Mohd Hasbie Abdullah.

They allegedly committed the offence at a traffic light intersection near E-Mart Supermarket in Jalan Kuala Baram bypass around 8.20am on June 21, 2016 , under Section 109 read together with Section 302 of the Penal Code.

First accused Mohamad Fitri also pleaded not guilty on Nov 25 to killing Bill at the same place, time and date, as charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence.

The court had fixed nine days for the trial beginning Jan 3, 2017.
