GEORGE TOWN:
A Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) cameraman who was warded at Penang Hospital (HPP) due to injuries he sustained during a shooting incident at the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, was discharged today.

Mohamad Amirul Amin Mohamad Amir, 28, who was accompanied by his mother, Bunisa Mohd Ali, 58, and his sister, was discharged at 1.45pm today.

He told reporters he was very happy to be discharged after 12 days of treatment at the hospital and was keen to resume work.

“Definitely, I am enthusiastic about going back to work. The ordeal that I went through had resulted in me not being able to work…the circumstances do not permit it,” he said.

Asked whether doctors had informed him about when he could start working again, Mohamad Amirul Amin said according to doctors it all depended on his physical condition.

He said although he was allowed home, he still had to seek follow-up treatment at HPP every week.

In the incident at 7.15pm on Dec 1, three men including businessman Ong Teik Kwang, 32, were killed while five others including Mohamad Amirul Amin were injured from shots fired by Ong’s bodyguard.

Mohamad Amirul Amin was shot on the left shoulder as he went forward to offer help for what he thought was an accident.

Amirul and a journalist from a print media, were on their way to cover the opening of the Penang Festival at Sungai Nibong, at the time the shooting occurred.
