RM1m robbery at goldsmith in Plaza OUG, KL

Four masked men, armed with pistols and parang, remove 21 trays of jewellery and flee in Mercedes Benz.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Four men armed with pistols, machetes and a hammer robbed a goldsmith at Plaza OUG in Jalan Klang Lama here of more than RM1 million worth of jewellery today.

The robbers, wearing helmets, masks and green vests, entered the shop about 1pm and pointed a pistol at the five employees, three women and two men, said Brickfields police chief ACP Sharul Othman Mansor.

He said one of the robbers smashed the glass showcases with a hammer and removed 21 trays of an assortment of jewellery. All of them fled in a Mercedes Benz car.

“The women employees were eating and the men were at the counters when the robbers struck.”

Sharul said the security guard was nine metres from the shop, near the main entrance of the plaza.

Sharul Othman said the police were trying to establish the identity of the robbers from the recording in the closed-circuit TV cameras.
