Those questioned were Saifuddin Abdullah, Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim, Penanti assemblyman Dr Norlela Ariffin, Seri Andalas assemblyman Dr Xaxier Jayakumar and PKR Selangor Youth chief Afzainizam Rahman.
They were questioned for close to two hours at the Travers police station on possible violations of the Peace Assembly Act 2012 and Sedition Act 1948.
Saifuddin said all of them were basically asked the same question on the Bersih 5 rally that took place on Nov 19.
“They asked us about our participation in the rally, whether we knew what Bersih 5 was all about and if we had given any speech at the event.
“Our answers were all standard and we chose to remain silent until we are charged in court,” he told reporters outside the Travers police station.
Ng said the police should focus on taking care of the safety of the community instead of wasting time investigating the opposition.
“Police should instead investigate those who have stolen the people’s money who are involved in the 1MDB scandal and not those who attended the peaceful rally.”
Norlela said she had refused to answer any question by the police, because she did not want to incriminate anyone.
“I hope that the government won’t use the law to come down hard on peaceful demonstrators. If they want to make arrests, then they have to arrests thousands of people.
“We are allowed to assemble peacefully under the constitution.”
The Bersih 5 rally had demanded for institutional reforms – clean elections, clean governments, strengthening parliamentary democracy, right to dissent, and empowerment of Sabah and Sarawak – and also the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak.
