KUALA LUMPUR:
A body was found during a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation for two Malaysian climbers who were reported missing at Mount Damavand, Iran, on Nov 20.

Expedition leader Rozaimi Mohd Said said the body clad in a red jacket, black pants and boots was found in Yakhar.

The body was later confirmed to be that of Syed Redzuan Syed Salim Shatri, 50, who was reported missing since Nov 20.

Rozaimi said his friend, Mohd Khafiz Bachok, who was involved in the SAR operation, had made the confirmation.

“Khafiz is bringing out the body found at the location,” he said via WhatsApp from Reyneh town at the foot of Mount Damavand.

Rozaimi said the SAR operation would continue tomorrow to search for the other missing Malaysian climber, Ramli And Majid, 44.

Syed Redzuan’s wife, Yuszahanim Yusoff, said she was trying to bring his remains back to Malaysia as soon as possible with the assistance of the Malaysian embassy in Tehran.

She said her husband’s body was found at the Yakhar Glacier, Mount Damavand, after six days of the SAR operation.

“We were informed that about 200 metres from the body, was another dark object which had not been ascertained to be human or otherwise.

“The SAR team is heading towards that object,” Rozaimi said earlier.

The two climbers were confirmed missing on the 5,610m-high mountain on Nov 20 after becoming separated from the other team members.
