6 takraw athletes suspended for failing to take doping test

Failure to undergo the doping test without valid reasons is an offence under Article 2.3 of the World Anti-Doping Code.

Six Malaysian takraw athletes, together with three officials, have been handed a temporary suspension for failing to undergo a doping test at the 31st King’s Cup World Sepaktakraw Championship in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (Adamas), in a statement, said it was informed of the matter officially by the International Sepaktakraw Foundation (ISTAF).

Adamas added that all the athletes and officials involved have been informed of the matter.

“They have also been given 14 days to provide a response to ISTAF.

“The act of avoiding or refusing these tests, as well as failing to undergo doping tests without valid reasons after being notified is an offence under Article 2.3 of the World Anti-Doping Code,” the statement read.

The King’s Cup championship is considered the most prestigious takraw tournament and is dedicated to the King of Thailand.
