GEORGE TOWN:
A BN lawmaker was ejected from the Penang assembly for a day following intense bickering with a PKR representative.

Roslan Saidin (BN-Pinang Tunggal) was asked to “take a break” by Speaker Law Choo Kiang after exchanging words with state executive councillor Dr Afif Bahardin (PKR-Seberang Jaya).

The drama began when Roslan screamed “you are a product of Umno and so is your father and mother” while Dr Afif was debating the motion on condemning Bersih leader Maria Chin Abdullah’s arrest today.

Afif: I think we need to move towards a country without Umno. We do not need Umno or Barisan Nasional any more. Malaysia without Umno is a better Malaysia.

Roslan: Hey, please do not forget you are a product of Umno. Your father is a product of Umno, too.

At this point, Afif hit back at Roslan, saying: “Pinang Tunggal jangan bapak-bapak. Have I ever spoken about your father? Why you want to talk about my father?”

The shouting match escalated as Soon Lip Chee (DAP-Jawi) and backbencher R S N Rayer (DAP-Seri Delima) started slamming Roslan.

Roslan then kept saying Afif was an ingrate for forgetting what Umno had done for the country.

Their screaming rendered the debate inaudible, with Law ordering the representatives to stand down. However, his instruction was ignored.

Moments later, Law ordered the sergeant-at-arms to escort Roslan out of the house.

“I can go out any time but it was Seberang Jaya (Afif) that started it all! You only know how to hentam (slam) Umno.

“But you fail to realise that you are a product of Umno! Are you not ashamed! You have forgotten your self!

“This a ‘dugaan Allah’ on Seberang Jaya!” Roslan exclaimed before he reluctantly left the chambers.

Other Umno representatives also left the house with Roslan in protest.

Law then reminded all representatives to engage in a mature debate without name-calling or interrupting proceedings.

“Since I have set a precedent in sending out a representative today, I will not hesitate to do the same if others do not obey my orders.

“I hope all of you will obey my instructions. We are all for supporting and opposing during debates, but please hold on to your decorum and engage in a mature debate.”

Afif then resumed his debate, explaining that he and his parents were products of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and so were his teachers.

“But one thing my parents and teachers taught me was to never support a corrupt person, let alone an official.

“Do not go against the trust placed in you by the people who voted for you.

“Thanks to their teachings, I am here today applying the same principles in fighting the tyranny of Umno and BN.”

During lunch break, Afif told reporters that his parents taught at UiTM and were not Umno members.
