GEORGE TOWN:
Bayan Lepas assembly member Noordin Ahmad (Umno-Bayan Lepas) will miss the entire sitting of the state assembly this term as he recovers from a stroke.

This was following the announcement by Speaker Law Choo Kiang (PKR-Bukit Tambun) that Noordin would be on sick leave on Tuesday.

Law, however, did not say what had happened to Noordin.

Rumours swirled within the chambers that Noordin had a stroke.

When contacted, Noordin told FMT that he had indeed suffered a stroke on Sept 16 and had been resting at home since.

“I am not that well yet, but I am already walking,” he said in a text today.

Former assembly deputy speaker in the 2008, Tan Hock Leong, suffered a stroke in 2011 but recovered in three months to continue serving his Machang Bubuk constituency.

Penanti assemblyperson Dr Norlela Ariffin (PKR-Penanti) had also been stricken but recovered quickly to return to her duties.
