Snatch thief killed after stealing boy’s mobile phone

While attempting to flee on a motorcycle, the suspects were rammed by a car at an intersection.

A snatch thief was killed while his accomplice was injured in an accident after stealing the mobile phone of an 11-year-old boy in Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang here on Sunday.

Seri Alam district police chief Supt Jokhiri Abd Aziz said in the 5.15pm incident, the two suspects had approached two children who were playing and pretended to ask for directions.

“Initial reports revealed that one of the suspects, who was riding a motorcycle, then snatched the mobile phone from one of the children.

“The incident was witnessed by members of the public who chased the two suspects. In the attempt to flee, they were rammed by a car which was exiting the road intersection at EcoWorld Taman Kota Masai,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

He said, as a result of the collision, the pillion rider, aged 20 years, sustained head injuries and was killed at the scene while his accomplice, the motorcyclist, aged 19 years, sustained injuries on his left leg.

“Investigations also revealed the motorcyclist had a previous drug-related criminal record,” he said.

The body of the pillion rider was sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) for a post-mortem while the motorcyclist, who received treatment at the same hospital, was detained for investigation, he said.
