In a statement, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd CEO Zohari Sulaiman said the maximum fare set for those who opted for the cash fare structure was set at RM6.40.
“The fare structure has been approved by the government and is based on the nominal flag fall and cascading rates for every 4-5km travelled.
“This is similar to the fare structure of the LRT and Monorail services operated by Rapid Rail, a subsidiary of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad.”
The first phase of the MRT SBK line – which has 12 stops between Sungai Buloh and Semantan — will commence on Dec 16.
Phase two of the line will cover the remaining 19 stations between Semantan and Kajang. This is scheduled to be operating next July.
“Similar to the practice in the Rapid KL LRT, Monorail and bus services, we will extend 50 per cent discounts on the cash fare to senior citizens, students and people with disabilities (OKU) who travel on the MRT and MRT feeder bus services.
“Children below seven can travel for free.”
The lowest single stop fare, based on the cash fare structure, is RM1.10, between the Pasar Seni and Merdeka stations.
The fare for the MRT feeder bus services is capped at RM1 per trip.
A total of 120 MRT feeder buses will cover 26 routes, linking all 12 MRT stations under Phase 1.
