PETALING JAYA: Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos has denied accusing police of punching him during a scuffle between his members and policemen in Ampang Point yesterday.

According to a Malay Mail Online report, Jamal said the video footage of him shouting that the cops had punched him had made it appear that he was accusing the police when he meant to tell the police that he had been punched.

“When the incident took place, I didn’t say the police hit me, but I had wanted to tell the police I had been hit.”

“Maybe because of the chaotic situation, it appeared as if I had said the police hit me,” he said at the Pandan Indah police headquarters.

Yesterday afternoon, Jamal and a group of Red Shirts showed up near Ampang Point where PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin and her members were distributing flyers on the Bersih 5 rally planned for Nov 19.

When the PKR women headed into the mall, Jamal and his Red Shirts supporters went in after them, following them through the main concourse of the mall, shouting and remonstrating against the women.

Police then stepped in to block their path and this led to scuffles with Jamal ending up with a bloody nose.

In videos of the incident, Jamal was seen and heard accusing police on several occasions, of punching him.

Meanwhile, Malaysiakini reported that Jamal invited six journalists on a helicopter ride at noon tomorrow to get an aerial view of a 28-year old PKR Youth leader’s purported wealth.

He alleged that the young politician owned a luxurious bungalow in Ampang and expensive cars worth tens of millions of ringgit despite holding his position for just one term.
