DAP Youth: Put ‘corrupt BN’ rhetoric behind

SHAH ALAM:
It is time Pakatan Harapan stop “singing the same old song” about the corrupt Barisan Nasional government and instead focus on the people’s needs, says DAP Youth chief Wong Kah Woh.

The opposition coalition should from now on be about what they can do to resolve the plight faced by ordinary Malaysians, especially the youth, he added.

Citing a long list of concerns of the public, such as the rising cost of living, the poor quality of education, and the inability of young people to secure jobs, Wong said these were matters that Pakatan Harapan leaders needed to bring up.

The people wanted solutions and it was the opposition’s duty to find them, he said.

There was also no need for the opposition to repeat the rhetoric about a corrupt government and prime minister, Wong said.

The tone of their campaign must change. “We must talk about what we can deliver.”

He suggested that only 30 per cent of opposition speeches should be about the negative aspect of the Federal Government, while the other 70 per cent should be “about telling the youth, and the voters, of our performance in Penang and Selangor, and what we can bring if Pakatan Harapan becomes the government.”

Wong, speaking to about 1,000 people attending Pakatan Harapan’s first convention, said DAP Youth, along with the youth wings of PKR and Parti Amanah Negara, had come up with a manifesto named “Harapan Pemuda”.

He also said that voters today wanted to know how the opposition could fulfil their promises.

“The best way to win their hearts is to prove to them that Pakatan Harapan is ready to build a government instead of being just an opposition. We must be able to show that we have a concrete plan to solve their day-to-day problems, then I am confident the youth especially will be attracted to us.”
