Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Dewan Rakyat, Nasrudin pointed out that DAP was a member of PH and since PAS had severed ties with it, the Islamist party could no longer be considered part of the opposition coalition.
“Yes, it is because of DAP. We cut ties with them a long time ago,” he said, when asked whether DAP was the reason PAS was not attending the convention.
He added that since PAS was not part of PH, it should not attend the convention, despite being invited.
Nasrudin’s statement however, appears to contradict that of PAS Secretary-General Takiyuddin Hassan, who said PAS’ top brass would give the convention a miss due to commitments to other programmes.
Takiyuddin had said that he would be attending the Sultan of Kelantan’s birthday function but did not give details regarding the programmes the others were busy with.
PH’s first convention will see an agreement reached between the coalition and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) to ensure straight fights against the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next general election.
PAS has yet to decide if it will work with other opposition parties on the issue of seat allocations in the next GE.
Nasaruddin also denied that there were plans for a meeting between PAS and PPBM leaders.
PPBM President Muhyiddin Yassin had previously voiced his hope that PAS and PH could cooperate to ensure one-to-one fights against Barisan Nasional.
