The 31-year-old constable was well behind in a queue to use the ATM and decided to go to the front of the line and demanded to use the machine first, flashing his police badge to a customer.
Unfortunately for him, the customer was a senior policeman from another state. The senior cop then asked the constable to show his authorisation card, a source told the daily.
“After the senior cop had identified himself and asked the suspect for his authorisation card, the suspect raised his voice and started a heated argument before fleeing the scene,” the source was quoted as saying of the incident which took place at about 5pm on Saturday at Publika Solaris in Kuala Lumpur.
When the senior cop caught up with the constable just outside a restaurant, he again asked for the authorisation card but instead of complying, the constable spoke of having “big connections”.
“This time, the suspect challenged him by claiming that he has ‘big connections’ and was not interested in arguing or fighting with the officer,” theSun quoted the source as saying.
The source added that when the constable tried to flee again, the senior cop got help from the mall’s auxiliary policemen to nab the man.
The constable was later found to be from the Sungei Besi police station and had been in the force since 2012.
According to the daily, he has four prior records against him both before and after he joined the police. Two are for criminal intimidation and two more for cheating.
The source revealed that his case had been referred to the police’s Integrity and Standard Compliance Department.
