Shamsher had lashed out at DAP’s alliance with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, calling it deplorable.
Universiti Malaya political analyst Associate Professor Azman Awang Pawi said: “What was said by that delegate is just an expression of dissatisfaction by a small group.
“It does not represent the views of the highest leadership in DAP.
“It also does not represent the views of DAP’s members and its grassroots supporters.”
Azman likened the outburst to the actions of the Red Shirts group led by Jamal Yunos, which he said consisted of Umno members whose views were not shared by Umno’s top leadership.
He stressed that having the same goal in politics is what decides the strength of an alliance.
“As long as there is a common agenda, there won’t be fading support among DAP’s supporters and fence sitters.”
Meanwhile, independent political analyst Khoo Kay Peng said that DAP’s unholy alliance with its long-time adversary, Mahathir, implied that the party’s top leadership was opportunist.
However, he said the outburst by Shamsher did not imply any cracks within DAP as it was not a sentiment expressed by its top leadership.
“Shamsher is unknown to the public. That’s why that outburst has quickly quietened down and has no effect on the party at all.
“If someone from the top leadership was quoted as saying that, then you know that there’s a crack in the party.”
