He said: “Bringing Mahathir to Parliament is just like bringing an antique car to a Formula One race”.
“It’s nice to watch, but not relevant for a racing event,” he said at the Parliament lobby, adding: “This is a small issue and to me, it’s not very important.”
Mahathir was hosted by opposition leaders at Parliament this morning where they held a meeting on the erosion of parliamentary immunity.
Among those present were DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Muhyiddin Yassin, Parti Warisan Sabah president Shafie Apdal, and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Commenting on Mahathir’s presence, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of parliamentary affairs, Azalina Othman Said, said this was part of the opposition’s gimmick.
On a separate note, Annuar said he still believed that former Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah had done nothing wrong when he spoke of Cabinet matters in the Dewan Rakyat.
In fact, by posing some questions on state-owned 1MDB during the budget debate, Husni had provided the government with a perfect opportunity to explain what is actually taking place in the firm, Annuar said.
“I always keep in touch with Husni. Even after he made his speech in the Dewan Rakyat , I maintained contact with him, and I share some of his views.
“My position as far as Husni is concerned, is very clear. He exercised his right to speak in Parliament, he spoke at a proper place, and in accordance with the House rules.
“The government can just take the opportunity to explain the whole thing.”
