KUCHING:
Two local women aged 18 and 27 have been detained for investigations into false news posted online about two men being murdered for their organs.

They surrendered themselves separately at the Bau police headquarters this afternoon.

State CID chief S. Dev Kumar said the two women had been detained to assist in the investigation and their mobile phones seized.

Earlier today, Dev Kumar had issued a warning that the posting was “utterly false and a complete fabrication”

He said there had been no case anywhere in Sarawak of people being killed and their organs harvested, as claimed in a Facebook posting. It claimed that three suspects are at large and were using a heavily tinted white van to seek more victims.

He had also named two Facebook account holders to turn themselves in at the Bau district police headquarters to assist in the investigation.

Dev Kumar said the Commissioner of Police, Mazlan Mansor, had been very concerned about the allegations. “He did not mince his words. All those responsible will face the full brunt of the law. By their action, they have created unnecessary fear and anxiety in the community,” he said.
