In his latest blog posting, Salleh remarked that the contradictions in what Mahathir said before about Soros compared to what he was saying today was so glaring to the point it had become “embarrassing”.
“When Malaysia’s economy collapsed, Mahathir refused to accept responsibility and admit that he was to blame for it and instead he blamed it on Soros,” Salleh said.
He also pointed out that when Mahathir was prime minister, he thought nothing of uttering anti-Semitic statements and even had the gall to refer to Jews as “people with crooked noses”, remarks he would have been arrested and jailed for, or forced to resign from office, had he been the leader of any other country.
Salleh recalled that when Mahathir was PM, he was also “bitterly opposed” to street demonstrations, summarily arresting and charging or even detaining without trial, any who dared organise or participate in them under his watch.
He said in contrast, the Mahahir of today was saying the exact opposite.
“Today, Soros is a good man for financing groups that are out to topple the government while demonstrations are a good and legitimate way to change governments.”
Questioning if Mahathir even remembered what he used to say or thought the people had forgotten, Salleh added, “Politics is one thing but maruah (dignity) must also be maintained in the game of politics because if we lose our maruah we have nothing left.”
