Najib, who is also prime minister and Pekan MP, said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission would provide RM1 billion to enable the country’s broadband coverage and quality to reach 20 megabytes per second.

However, in the Federal Expenditure Estimates, “Projek Jalur Lebar” is only allocated RM57.5 million.

Najib had said in his speech that the government had allocated RM1.3 billion to subsidise the price of rice, rice seeds and fertilisers, including for hill paddy, to help paddy farmers.

The Federal Expenditure Estimates states that the total allocation under paddy price subsidies, rice fertiliser subsidies, valid rice seed subsidies, and rice hill fertiliser subsidies was only RM690 million.

Najib had said the Skills Development Fund would receive RM360 million, but the Federal Expenditure Estimates only shows an allocation of RM5.5 million.

“In just these three examples, the total difference in amount between what was announced in the finance minister’s budget speech and the Estimates is about RM1.907 billion,” said Sim in a statement today.

“This is not a small amount. In fact, this amount already exceeds the annual budget of several state governments in Malaysia.”

He claimed this clearly made a prima facie case against Najib for misleading the Dewan Rakyat and reiterated his call for the prime minister to be brought before Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee.

Earlier today, Sim was ejected from the Dewan Rakyat while arguing this motion.

He had questioned Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia on his decision not to refer the Pekan MP for “misleading” the Dewan Rakyat during his Budget 2017 speech.

Pandikar told Sim to file a private motion if he was unhappy with the decision.

Sim pressed on for Pandikar to review the decision, despite repeated calls for him to sit down. This resulted in Sim being thrown out.
