AirAsia flight skids off Kota Baru airport runway

PETALING JAYA: An AirAsia aircraft skidded off the runway while preparing to take off from the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kota Baru, Kelantan last night.

Flight AK6443, which was scheduled to depart at 9.55pm last night, skidded off the runway at about 10.25pm while taxiing prior to takeoff, according to a report by Astro Awani.

The low-cost carrier later released a statement confirming “an incident” had taken place while the Airbus A320 was taxiing on the runway at the Kota Baru airport. No further details were provided.

AirAsia said all passengers and crew on board the flight from Kota Baru to Kuala Lumpur were safe and no injuries had been reported.

In a statement released this morning, the airline announced that flight AK6446 from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Baru, which was to have departed at 9.30pm last night, had been delayed until 9am this morning.

AirAsia added that all flights are operating normally out of Sultan Ismail Petra Airport today.
