Lawyer, clerk in the dock for trafficking drugs

No plea was recorded as the offences carry the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

SEREMBAN:
A lawyer and a clerk were today charged in the magistrate’s court with two counts of trafficking cannabis and methamphetamine, an offence which carries the death penalty if convicted.

G. Sivakumar, 50, and P. Sivagami, 38 were said to be in possession of 1kg of cannabis and 95.5gm of methamphetamine when they were nabbed at a car park near Taman Desa Seringin in Nilai on Oct 14.

Anyone in possession of 200gm cannabis better known as ganja, and 15gm of methamphetamine (syabu), is presumed be a trafficker.

Both were represented by Haresh Mahadevan and Ramzani Idris. No plea was recorded before magistrate Rahimah Rahim as the offences carry the mandatory death penalty on conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Sara Afikah Zulkifli applied for an adjournment pending completion of the chemist report.

Rahimah fixed Dec 9 for the case to be mentioned.
