“Finally, a love letter from UM. I love UM,” the undergraduate wrote on Facebook.
Malaysiakini quoted UM Vice-Chancellor (student affairs) Rohana Yusof as saying in the letter that Anis Syafiqah had “damaged or undermined university interests, good name and harmony” by organising the rally.
The rally was held in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 27 following the action by the US Department of Justice to file civil suits to recover properties said to have been bought using money allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB.
The court filings also alleged that USD 731 million, claimed to have originated from 1MDB, had been deposited into the bank account of “Malaysian Official 1”, who was not identified.
The news report said Anis had been given seven days to respond to the letter, dated Oct 12.
Rohana, in the letter, stated that failure to reply would result in disciplinary action.
About 1,500 people had taken part in the rally. They marched to Dataran Merdeka.
