KUALA LUMPUR:
Former MPs and assembly members have been urged to be more vocal on political issues. Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said they could help to counter issues related to the current politics of hate.

He said members of Mubarak (the council of former elected representatives) should use their experience to be voices of reason and create positive feelings.

“I believe Mubarak members can play a role in creating awareness and reverting followers of the new media who have turned to social media to evoke an atmosphere of hatred and division in the political landscape,” he said last night at the association’s annual meeting and dinner.

Hishammuddin added that it was important to cast aside political hatred in view of the impending general election, which is believed would be the most difficult and challenging for Umno.
