KUALA LUMPUR: A heavy police presence kept apart as many as 3,000 rival MIC members who gathered this morning outside Putra World Trade Centre, where the MIC is holding its annual conference.
The crowd comprised supporters of MIC president Dr S. Subramaniam, and his ousted predecessor G Palanivel.
They hurled abuse and water bottles at each other, while Palanivel’s supporters called for Subramaniam’s removal as party president.
Subramaniam took over as president last year after 18 months of party in-fighting and a dispute over party elections which were called into question by the Registrar of Societies after complaints of irregularities.
