A Bersih spokesperson said the convoy had been the most peaceful so far, after two weekends of reported skirmishes and harrassment from supporters of the rival Red Shirts movement.
The spokesperson congratulated the Red Shirts for “repenting and finding something more useful to do instead of harassing us”, Star Online reported.
The convoy was flagged off from the office of Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim of the DAP and supporters were scheduled to distribute flyers as scheduled and attend a high-tea with Pakatan Harapan leaders.
A ceramah will be held at Stadium Kuala Selangor tonight at which PKR deputy president and Selangor menteri besar Azmin Ali is expected.
In Sabak Bernam last week, supporters of the pro-Umno Red Shirts were reported to have kicked and pelted some Bersih supporters with eggs.
Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos said in a Facebook posting on Friday that the group would not challenge today’s convoy, but would focus on carrying out “charity work” for residents of Sungai Besar and Selangor because of high tides expected this week.
