The comic book entitled “My Bad Bromance”, featuring drawings of naked men in various activity and stories to accompany the drawings, was first highlighted by a Singaporean blogger who runs the blog site, mylilbookworm, on her Facebook page of the same name, on Wednesday morning.
Warning fellow parents of the “comics” being sold in Popular Book Company Pte Ltd, and tagging the company’s Facebook account, the blogger wrote: “They should be taken off the shelves!”
The posting has been shared more than 400 times and with the message going viral, Popular Bookstore took the relevant action on the same day.
In a statement released yesterday, Popular Bookstore said that it took immediate action after noting the concerns from the public.
“We have ensured that the book has been removed from our shelves.
“In order to prevent those who do not meet the criterion from accessing the book, each copy comes with a warning label indicating its mature content.
“We understand the concerns of the public regarding the sale of the book in our stores. Popular takes any feedback from the public seriously and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused,” a company spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, the comic book was the second in a Malaysian comic book series “Bro Don’t Like That La Bro’ and since it was meant for those aged 18 and above, hence it had been categorised under the “Local Interest” category in the adults section of the bookstore.
