GEORGE TOWN: Temerloh MP and PAS Information Chief Nasrudin Hassan has paid RM10,000 as part of a court-ordered payment following a settlement of a defamation suit by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng earlier this year.

Nasrudin’s lawyer, Wan Rohimi Wan Daud, said the other claim of RM2,000 in costs, owed after failing to set aside the case, would be paid once a claim was made by Lim’s lawyers.

He said Nasrudin had deposited a sum of RM10,000 to his firm’s account to be paid to Lim’s lawyers as instructed.

“I have faxed the details of the payment to Lim’s lawyers late evening yesterday,” Rohimi said in a statement today.

A cheque for the amount is expected to be sent to Lim’s legal team tomorrow, he added.

Nasrudin was sued by Lim for defaming him in an article he posted on Facebook. However, Lim agreed to retract the suit after Nasrudin apologised at the High Court in January.

The court then ordered Nasrudin to pay Lim RM10,000 in costs.

Earlier this week, Nasrudin said he was overseas and “had planned to pay the amount”.
