The founder of Vida Beauty Sdn Bhd is expected to face more than 10 charges under three offences, under the Goods and Services Tax Act 2014, Berita Harian reported.
She is accused of registering late for GST, failing to produce GST statements and failing to pay the tax, amounting to some RM4 million.
A source close to the flamboyant millionaire said that her company has long been registered with the Customs Department to pay GST, but has only not paid the taxes.
“However, Vida is disappointed that the department did not personally contact her and inform that she will be charged, but instead announced it to the media.
“She thinks that the case has happened due to technical issues and misunderstanding,” said the source, on the condition of anonymity.
Vida, who owns comestic brands Pamoga and Qu Puteh, is well known for sponsoring the Kelantan football team.
Part of her conditions for the sponsorship, were renaming the team from The Red Warriors to Pamoga Qu Puteh The Red Warriors, and painting the Kota Baru stadium in pink to reflect the colour of her beauty products.
However, it was reported last month that Vida was no longer interested in sponsoring the team as she was disappointed with the team’s performance.
She also made the news when two of her beauty products under the Qu Puteh brand were banned in Brunei after they were found to contain mercury.
