Salleh picks apart opposition waffling

PPBM must figure out how to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan before talking about winning the general election, says Salleh Said Keruak.

PETALING JAYA:
Umno’s Salleh Said Keruak, picking apart opposition speculation about election victories, has advised Muhyiddin Yassin not to count his electoral chickens before they hatch.

Salleh said Muhyiddin’s Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and the other opposition parties did not seem to know what they would do if they won the general election.

Muhyiddin had speculated yesterday that opposition parties would be able to take over the Johor state government if they made gains of 10 more seats in the next general election.

Writing in his blog, Salleh pointed out that Pakatan Harapan had not even decided yet whether to admit PPBM into the opposition coalition or whether PPBM was merely to enter into an electoral pact on seat distribution.

“If they cannot agree even before the elections, how are they going to agree after the election in the event they do win Johor?” he said.

He said PPBM seemed less of a viable competitor to the current government, and more a party set up merely to oust Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak. “Muhyiddin needs to convince the voters that it has something better to offer them compared to the current government,” said Salleh.

Salleh also picked up Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s contrasting statements about who would lead the opposition parties. He had said recently in London that Muhyiddin should be the opposition candidate for Prime Minister but had then said yesterday that there was no need to decide yet.

“Is this because PPBM and Pakatan Harapan do not disagree on the candidate? And we know that PAS cannot agree to both Anwar and Muhyiddin. So who will PAS choose as Prime Minister?” Salleh said.

Salleh said these issues were more important to the voter rather than “counting the number of seats you are going to win, while not knowing what you will do if you do win”.
