The New Straits Times reported that Muhammad Nur Aman Ibrahim from Taman Desa Ria here was also wanted to facilitate investigations into the attempted murder on two policemen.
District police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din told a press conference that during the robbery about 3.40am yesterday, the female victims lost RM1,000 in cash, as well as their valuables and personal documents.
The clip shows a machete wielding man in a White Honda Accord brazenly robbing the women, who were in a Myvi, at the guard house of a residential area in Ara Damansara. The man also waved the weapon at the guards to hold them at bay.
After two clips of the CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media and messaging apps, district police stepped up surveillance and patrol in the area.
A police patrol team spotted a Honda Accord which matched the description of the one portrayed in the video, about 5.30pm yesterday at the Desa Ria area, and ordered the driver to pull over.
The driver, however, reversed into the patrol car behind him, before speeding off, leading to a chase. Arriving at the Desa Menteri area, the suspect rammed his car into the right side of the police vehicle, prompting the policemen to fire five shots.
The suspect managed to speed off, but his car was later found abandoned not far from the scene.
Police checks later revealed the car had been reported hijacked from a civil servant at SS4 here on Sept 23.
Police found packets believed to contain heroin, as well as a machete and a crash helmet, in the car.
Mohd Zani said the cases were being investigated under various sections under the Penal Code, including for armed robbery and attempted murder, as well as the Dangerous Drugs Act.
He urged anyone with information on Muhammad Nur Aman’s whereabouts to contact the district police at 03-79662222 or the nearest police station.
