The Umno Supreme Council member said if Mahathir was smart, he would not do “crazy things”, such as collecting a million signatures to oust Prime Minister Najib Razak.
“Everything he is doing is embarrassing. It is not logical and it doesn’t make sense any more,” he told reporters at the Asean Celebrity Explore Quest Malaysia tourism event here today.
Nazri was asked to comment on Mahathir’s admission that he had failed to convince Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah on the Citizens’ Declaration during an audience with the King recently.
The Citizens’ Declaration campaign, launched by Mahathir and 40 others last March, calls for Malaysians to join in the quest to remove Najib via peaceful means.
The Padang Renggas Member of Parliament reiterated that as long as Najib had the support of the majority of lawmakers, the latter could not be removed as PM.
“Should Najib lose support, only then can the King appoint a new prime minister.”
On a separate matter, Nazri, who is also the tourism and culture minister, claimed that the antics of Red Shirts movement leader Jamal Yunos would not affect Umno at all.
Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar Umno division chief, was yesterday criticised for tearing up a letter of demand (LoD) for an apology sent by Maria Chin Abdullah’s lawyers and flushing it down the toilet.
The LoD by the Bersih 2.0 chairperson was in response to Jamal’s claim that the electoral reform group had been infiltrated by the Islamic State militant group.
Nazri, however, argued that with three million members, there was “no way” one person’s action could define Umno.
“He does not represent Umno’s thinking.”
