PETALING JAYA:
Sabah’s newest political party will formulate an education policy for the state if it wins the coming general election, according to one of its leaders, Penampang MP Darell Leiking.

In an interview with FMT, Leiking said this was one of the main items on the party’s agenda.

He said the party believed that Sabah needed its own education policy, one that would be backed by “sound and proven” strategies.

Leiking recently quit PKR to lead the party with Semporna MP Shafie Apdal. Little is known about the party beyond its multiracial character. Neither Leiking nor Shafie has disclosed even its name.

Leiking said the party was working with a team of technocrats, academics, professionals and businessmen to formulate a new deal for Sabah.

He said many things needed to be done for Sabah, and chief among these was for the Malaysia Agreement of 1963 to be honoured by the Federal Government.

He also said the party had solutions to Sabah’s longstanding immigration problems and to the issue of unbalanced development between districts and would find solutions to the “various social problems faced by Sabahan youths, especially those who leave Sabah to find jobs in Peninsular Malaysia.”

He said the party had a vision for a “new Sabah” that needed a focus on meritocracy, skills and discipline. He expressed confidence that such an approach would inspire Sabahans with trust in their leaders.

When asked whether he was contemplating switching to a state seat as he was now using a state rather than federal platform, Leiking said he was not thinking about this yet.

“My focus now is to ignite talented Sabahans from all races to offer to serve our homeland with determination, humility and love for Sabah,” he said.
