The Star Online said the 15-year-old had suffered injuries to one of his kidneys in the incident in January this year.
It reported that the case was settled out of court for RM42, 392.10, including legal costs amounting to RM3,853.83.
The amount was handed over to the student’s mother, May Tok Guat Mei, 44, by MCA Youth Legal Bureau Chief Ng Kian Nam and Klang MCA Youth Chief Tee Hooi Ling at the party’s Klang division service centre today.
The news portal said the Form Three student, Lim Wei Teck, had to have one of his kidneys removed at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah on the day of the mishap after it ruptured due to the impact of the fall.
He fell 1.5 metres into an uncovered manhole in Persiaran Batu Nilam in Bukit Tinggi on his way to school at 6.45am.
Tok said her son, who attended SMK Batu Unjur and played in his school’s basketball team, had to make many changes in his lifestyle after losing his kidney.
“He has to watch what he eats and cannot be active in sports any more.’’
Ng was disappointed that MPK had yet to apologise for the incident, as demanded by the family, and had not made any attempt to visit them since the incident.
