A health clinic here received a call from a teacher who first heard the baby girl crying in a bag at 7.45am at a bus stop along Jalan Teluk Ayer Tawar.
Paramedics from the Bagan Ajam village clinic arrived at the bus stop minutes later to find the infant with insect bites all over her body. They also found her umbilical cord to be intact.
Fortunately, the baby was alive and based on initial checks, the baby could have been delivered over the past 24 hours.
The infant has been brought to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for a check-up and has been reported to be in a stable condition.
Butterworth police confirmed receiving a report on the baby, saying they were viewing surveillance cameras around the area to see who had left the newborn there.
