Go-kart crash: Cops want toxicology test results fast

Police say the crash in Kuantan occurred when three go-karts brushed against each other, causing one to skid and hit the spectators.

KUANTAN: Police have urged the Chemistry Department to speed up results of a toxicology test on three go-kart drivers involved in a crash which killed a father and daughter in Indera Mahkota here yesterday.

Kuantan Police Chief ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh said the blood and urine samples of participants of the go-kart race were taken yesterday and sent to the Chemistry Department today.

“Usually, the waiting period for results of tests for drugs and alcohol is two weeks, but we want it speeded up in this case,” he said when contacted today.

Abdul Aziz added that the three drivers were allowed to go home yesterday afternoon after their statements were recorded at Kuantan police headquarters.

The investigation, under Section 304 (A) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, provides for a maximum jail sentence of 30 years and a fine.

Factory Supervisor Izwan Isa, 39, and his daughter, Nur Zulaikha, 5, were killed while watching the go-kart race at 11.30am yesterday.

His wife, Siti Suhaiza Seman, 38, and son, Muhammad Izz Danial,7, were hurt.

Izwan died on the spot while Nur Zulaikha died while being treated at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA).

Siti Suhaiza was allowed to go home yesterday while Muhammad Izz Danial was still receiving treatment at the hospital and reported in stable condition.

Pahang Police Public Order and Traffic Chief Supt Mohd Noor Yusof Ali said yesterday the crash occurred when three go-karts brushed against each other, causing one to skid and hit the victims.

The go-kart race, tagged as the Educational Innovation Motorsports Automotive race (Eimarace) was open to students of institutions of higher learning.
