
In a column by Utusan Malaysia editor Zulkiflee Bakar, he noted that the PAS president would also be the ideal successor to Haron Din – who passed away last week – as Hadi was an experienced politician who has endured many challenges as its number one.
“Hadi has the complete package,” Zulkiflee wrote, adding that the Marang lawmaker had the ability and the leadership skills to succeed in the role.
He also said that PAS was not in a comfortable position with the impending general election a litmus test for the acceptance of the ulama leadership following the setting-up of Amanah.
Amanah, formed last year, comprises former PAS members from the professional faction.
While tradition dictates that the deputy spiritual adviser takes over as the Musyridul Am, current deputy, Ahmad Yaakob has said he would rather remain in the number two role.
Until the Syura council names Haron’s successor, the Kelantan Menteri Besar is currently the acting spiritual adviser.
Haron, 76, died at Stanford University Hospital in San Francisco on Sept 15 from heart complications.
His remains were buried at the Five Pillars Muslim Cemetery in Livermore, California.
