Teen mum suffocates newborn with pillow

The 18-year-old is currently under police custody and being probed for murder, says report.

PETALING JAYA: A teenage mother is alleged to have fatally suffocated her newborn baby in Bukit Palah, Malacca yesterday.

According to a report in The Star, the 18-year-old informed her 17-year-old boyfriend after suffocating the newborn.

The boyfriend then rushed the infant to the Malacca Hospital, but the doctor found the baby lifeless about 1am yesterday, before calling the police.

The young mother later confessed to the police that she had suffocated the newborn baby girl with a pillow.

Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Shaik Abdul Adzis Shaik Abdullah confirmed to the daily that the girl had been detained and is being probed for murder.

Malaysia has seen its fair share of baby killings.

There have been previous cases of mothers disposing of their newborns via various cruel means, including throwing them off buildings and flushing them down toilets.
