LUMUT:
A woman who was handcuffed during a raid carried out by the Manjung district National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) at three entertainment outlets around Sitiawan near here yesterday, tried to dupe the enforcement officers by pretending to faint.

State AADK Enforcement Division director Mokhtarudin Mohamad said the 42-year-old woman was among 67 detained in the operation that started at 10pm on Tuesday and ended yesterday afternoon.

“The detained were aged between 31 and 66 and there were some who tried to escape by climbing on the ceiling but failed. Our initial target in this operation was about 35 people, but the numbers exceeded our expectation,” he said in a press conference after the operation here yesterday.

The joint operation involved 35 members of the agency; Immigration Department (17); Road Transport Department (17) and nine members of the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela).

Mokhtarudin said urine tests on the detainees also found that all of them were positive for methamphetamine and the case will be investigated Under Section 3 (1) of the Drug Addicts Act 1983.

He added that Sitiawan has been identified as among 14 hot spots for drug addicts in Malaysia.

Members of the public can continue to provide information on drug addiction in their areas so that action can be taken, he said.
