The story of the “Pokemon soft toy uncle” here in Damansara Uptown has become so widespread that even customers not interested in Pokemon have come to buy his toys to help alleviate his predicament.
“We heard of him via Facebook,” said student Luke Lim, who had come with his friend, who only wanted to be known as Jonathan.
“To be honest, we’re not really all that into Pokemon. But we were having lunch nearby and decided to come over and get a few.”
Unfortunately for the two friends, most of David’s stock had been sold off by the time they arrived.
By 3pm, the crowd had mostly dispersed, although there were still a number of people buying David’s leftover stock.
Another student, known only as Sou Mun, said that she was impressed by how Uncle David’s story has quickly spread across social media locally.
“His marketing is very good. We’ve all heard about it,” Sou Mun told FMT.
“I also wanted to help him fight his cancer (leukaemia).”
David had recently found himself burdened with 250 Pokemon soft toys after a customer who ordered them from him, failed to show up to collect it.
His story went viral on Monday after a netizen who spotted him waiting on the sidewalk of Damansara Uptown, later shared Uncle David’s predicament on Facebook.
Demand for his toys shot up drastically soon after, with some customers even attempting to buy his toys in batches of 150.
David was heard this afternoon chiding some of his customers to be “fair to the others” and not to buy everything at one go.
“Give the others coming here a chance. I’m doing this every day.
“If you take everything, others won’t get anything,” he gently reminded the crowd.
