Supreme Council member says Gelang Patah permanent chairman's exit from Umno did not have significant impact.

PETALING JAYA: Umno supreme council member Abdul Rahman Dahlan has played down the announced resignation of Gelang Patah Umno’s permanent chairman, saying that Baharum Abdul Ghani’s departure did not have a significant impact on the delegates’ meeting.

He pointed out on Twitter that none of the delegates had followed Baharum in leaving Umno.

“Instead, the delegates attendance still managed to fill up the entire hall until the end of the meeting. They didn’t budge at all,” he said.

He said the attendance indicated that Gelang Patah delegates wanted to send a strong message to the others that they would continue supporting Umno, he said.

Baharum was one of two veteran Johor Umno divisional leaders who announced their exit, the other being Kulai division deputy chief Tosrin Jarvanti, a special officer to former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

It was understood that the two men were members of Gabungan Ketua Cawangan Malaysia which had issued a statement last year calling for the resignation of Najib Razak as Umno president and prime minister.
