SEREMBAN:
A citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis, who is a participant of the Malaysia MySecond Home (MM2H) programme, was fined RM16,000, in default 12 months’ jail, by the Magistrate’s Court here today for possession of a fake MyKad.

Magistrate Nurulfitriza Abdul Latif fined Lin Juncong, who pleaded guilty to the charge.

Lin, who is a businessman, was caught in possession of the fake MyKad, bearing the name of Lam Poh Seng, when he went to the Immigration Department at Wisma Persekutuan Seremban on Aug 20 to apply for a Malaysian passport.

Following a check with the National Registration Department, it was found that the identity card number 860705-05-6975 with the name Lam Poh Seng did not exist and was never issued by the department.

According to the facts of the case, Lin, 30, then confessed that he was from St Kitts and Nevis and had valid documents to reside in the country.

In mitigation, Lin, represented by lawyer Hanif Hassan, requested for a non-custodial punishment and not the maximum fine as it was his first offence and that he had a two-year-old child and his wife was six-months’ pregnant with their second child.

Deputy public prosecutor Shah Amirul Gautamaruban Abdullah prosecuted.
