Muhammad Uwais Hazrin Munir discovered he had a special talent to communicate through drawings where other children could easily express themselves in words.
And the Primary 4 student from SK Seberang Jaya does not just “speak”, he triumphs, winning several art competitions he has participated in.
His ultimate victory todate however, came on Monday when his creative ability won him the first prize for the special education category in a drawing competition organised by the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry and Marine Parks Department.
According to The Star, Uwais’ depiction of underwater life, featuring a shark, turtle, jellyfish, octopus and a diver swimming together, captured the attention of guests, including minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Accompanied by his mother Hazlina Mohamed and younger brother Yousef, Uwais had been afraid to speak initially but was able to express himself better once he knew the guests loved his work.
“I love to paint and draw and I always go home with a prize,” The Star quoted him as saying.
His mother chipped in, saying his interest in drawing started even before he had been diagnosed with dyslexia, as he demonstrated his creative talent from the age of three.
“We want him to do what he loves to do most. Winning helps him to be confident,” she told The Star, adding that she helped him register for various art competitions from a young age.
