He said Barisan Nasional knows this but did not dare to say the racket had failed as a result of a stringent selection system put in place by the state government.
Lim said there was no bribery involving the Penang Government — just gullible people falling prey to conmen.
“BN will not admit that the parties alleged to have paid ‘coffee money’ for affordable homes have failed, simply because they did not meet the requirements set.
“It goes to show the Penang Government’s procedures are effective in ensuring that only those who are qualified can get homes,” he said in a statement today.
Last week, two videos allegedly implicating retiree Lim Keat Seong, 68, in a failed bribes-for-affordable housing surfaced online.
Keat Seong has been alleged to have sought and received bribes to cut queues in Penang’s affordable housing system.
He has been detained for a week by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for investigations.
Incidentally, Keat Seong’s daughter is Sungai Pinang DAP rep Siew Khim. She has denied any involvement and distanced herself from her father.
Meanwhile, Guan Eng said Barisan Nasional had been using Keat Seong’s case to attack Penang and DAP.
He said Malaysians were “not that stupid” to be deceived by lies spread by BN, especially when BN proclaimed it was cleaner than Pakatan Harapan parties.
“This is not like the cow and condo case, involving the Wanita Umno chief, as the husband received hundreds of millions of ringgit in a contract to herd cows.
“Over here, we have parties which are claiming coffee money was paid to Siew Khim’s father and did not get homes.
“Those who paid the man must make a police report,” Guan Eng said.
