PETALING JAYA:
Auctions of the new “V” vehicle registration numbers have raised a record RM22 million for the Road Transport Department (JPJ), according to deputy transport minister Ab Aziz Kaprawi.

He said previous registration auctions had only raised a maximum of RM10 million.

Ab Aziz said the JPJ would consider issuing more vanity plates. He told the Berita Harian newspaper that the ministry had been surprised with the public’s interest and excitement about the new “V” registration sequence, which are for Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya registrations.

The winning bid for V1 was the highest in history at RM989,780 and is believed to have been made by Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar of Johor.

Sultan Ibrahim previously secured “F1” with a bid of RM836,660 in July, “W1N” with a bid of RM748,000 in 2014 and “WWW1” a bid of RM520,000 in 2012.

Utusan Malaysia reported that Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan made a winning bid of close to RM900,000 for the “V9” registration.
