PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia’s Olympians have been well-rewarded for their efforts in this year’s Rio Olympics.

Badminton silver medallist Goh Liu Ying and diving silver medallist Cheong Jun Hoong have been offered land or a condominium by their respective state governments.

According to a report by Harian Metro, the Malacca state government had offered Goh a plot of land, usually allocated to civil servants.

However, Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron said Goh will have to formally apply for the plot of land, located either in Tehel, Jasin or Durian Tunggal, Alor Gajah.

The plot of land was somewhere between 464 and 900 square metres.

“Liu Ying needs to apply for it, and we will give her special attention should she do so. However, she will need to pay the premium,” Idris told reporters.

Goh said she considered the offer a special one and that she intended to apply for the plot of land.

Meanwhile, the Perak Government has rewarded Cheong with a RM320,000 apartment for her achievement.

Star Online reported State Sports Committee Chairman Shahrul Zaman Yahaya as saying that the apartment, currently being constructed in Taman Meru, was expected to be completed in 2018.

“I hope she can get a unit facing the swimming pool so she can dive right in,” Shahrul Zaman joked when officially announcing Cheong’s reward.

“The decision on the incentive was made at the state Exco meeting. The state will also give an incentive of RM15,000 to her,” Shahrul said.

The Casa Kayangan apartment project is developed by Kumpulan Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak.

Earlier, it was reported that national shuttler Lee Chong Wei had already received a condominium worth RM1.5 million as a reward for his silver medal effort.

The 1,100sq ft, three-bedroom unit, at the planned Lavile exclusive condominium in Taman Maluri, Cheras, will face the Kuala Lumpur City Centre and come fully furnished.
