Azalina, who heads the task force, said this when responding to questions from the media on the status of proposed amendments to the law which is aimed at widening the definition of rape.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, who was speaking at a press conference, said that she had yet to be briefed on the proposed amendments.
Last week, Prime Minister Najib Razak announced the task force to review and examine issues related to sex crimes, particularly rape involving children.
Azalina’s predecessor, Nancy Shukri had earlier revealed that amendments to Section 376 of the Penal Code had been drafted.
The amendments proposes to widen the definition of rape, among others, to include the insertion of a finger and not just the penis.
The proposed amendments had been sparked after the “finger rape” case in Sarawak, in which a 60-year old man impregnated a 14-year old girl by inserting his semen-smeared finger into the girl’s vagina.
The suspect, Bunya Jalong, was acquitted and discharged of four counts of raping the teen at a hotel in Sibu in 2011, due to the definition of rape which is restricted to penile insertion.
Before the press conference, Azalina visited the new Special Cyber Court at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, where the court set up specifically to handle cyber crimes began its operations today.
She said some 27 judges will be assigned to preside over criminal and civil cyber crimes, adding that there were some 10 criminal and 93 civil cases pending trial.
It was previously reported that the cyber court would be set up following an alarming increase in cyber attacks, information theft, spying, cyber gambling, pornography and others.
