Penang Gerakan Vice-Chairman 1 Oh Tong Keong said he was stunned by the fact that the Penang Government was not bothered to lodge a police report over the racket.
“It has been 72 hours since the video was made viral. We have yet to hear from Uncle Lim or the state government.
“It appears that he has gone into hiding or absconded. To make things worse, the state government has yet to act against him.
“It is extraordinary for the state government to not lodge a police report against him. If others had done it, they would have made an immediate police report,” he said at a press conference at the Gerakan headquarters this morning.
Uncle Lim, whose real name is Lim Keat Seong, 68, has been accused of running a syndicate that allowed people to obtain affordable homes by cutting queues and flouting eligibility requirements.
This was revealed in a secretly-taped video released by Gerakan.
Keat Seong’s daughter is Sungai Pinang DAP assemblywoman Lim Siew Khim.
The latter has denied being involved in the racket, saying she was not aware of her father’s actions.
She also said her father had no influence on who should be given state government housing units.
Penang Housing Committee Chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo also categorically denied the existence of such a racket.
Oh called on the Penang Government to release the list of applicants approved for affordable housing projects in the state so “that some semblance of transparency was there”.
“We are going to proceed to seek an audience with Governor Abdul Rahman Abbas for a Commission of Inquiry into this racket.
“We will also be offering a public education session on anti-corruption to all Penangites, with focus on not going to middlemen like Uncle Lim, as he is alleged to be,” Oh said.
