Bung, who is an Umno Supreme Council member, yesterday claimed that young Malay DAP leaders were minions who had no qualms about slandering Umno leaders.
However, in a statement, Abdul Aziz Isa – the special assistant to state DAP leader Chong Chieng Jen – claimed that more Malays were joining DAP because Umno had failed to defend the rights of the Malays and many among them were disillusioned with the present political system.
“Datuk Bung Moktar Radin is actually worried because many Malays have distanced themselves from Umno and are interested in DAP.
“He is worried because the faith of the raykat in Umno, especially among the Malays themselves, is eroding.
“For Bung Moktar’s information, there is nothing wrong with Malays wanting to be leaders.
“At least the Malays who enter the DAP have a mission and vision, compared with Malays who join Umno,” he said, alleging that those who joined Umno were only interested in lining their pockets and becoming “yes men” and brown-nosers.
Bung’s labelling of Malays who joined DAP was made in response to a joint statement by 14 Malay DAP members on why they had turned their backs on Umno.
The 14 included DAP Youth Executive Councillor Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud and Selangor DAP Committee members Young Syefura Othman as well as Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof.
In their statement, the group claimed that more Malays were beginning to realise that Umno had “placed them under the party’s feet.”
